The parable of the prodigal son is not about the prodigal son.
Jesus told a parable about a son who went away and spent his inheritance. That’s where the name comes from. But the parable is really about the father, first and foremost. And it’s a parable that tells us about the creator of the universe.
I am a follower of Jesus Christ, though I am continually growing in understanding what that means. I believe that God loves everyone all the time. The world was created for love and whenever we veer from love, we miss the mark of who we were created to be.
About God’s Gift to the World
You are, in fact, God’s gift to the world.
Not in a prideful way, because everyone is God’s gift to the world.
You are God’s gift to the world because God has specific and important work for you to do.
A long time ago, a man named Paul who tried to stamp out Christianity and became its biggest proponent wrote this about people:
For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
That’s you, my friend.
I plan to remind you who you are quite regularly.
-> Most every day per week.
-> Mostly 1-minute reads
-> Encouraging blog posts reminding you who you are and offering thoughts on how to be the gift I know you are.
