Are You Able to Give the Gift of Gracious Receiving

Friends,

I am putting the finishing touches on a 2018 Journal (to be released soon). It has a quote and a reflection for every day. Yes, it’s a bit of work. But I really think it will help people reorient their life for the better.

One of the quotes I am using is from the wonderful author and speaker Dr. Brene Brown. (Check out her talks on Ted.com.) She writes very insightfully about the connection between our ability to give without judging and our ability to receive without shame:

Until we can receive with an open heart, we’re never really giving with an open heart. When we attach judgment to receiving help, we knowingly or unknowingly attach judgment to giving help. ― Brené Brown

Think about how you feel when you give and how you feel when you receive, especially when you receive help. Do you judge yourself negatively when you receive help from others? If so, then you probably are not able to give wholeheartedly (yet).

That’s a lot of judging. It’s worth thinking about. That’s all I’m going to write today.

Grace and peace,

John

About the Author

John Rallison

I am a follower of Jesus Christ, though I am continually growing in understanding what that means. I believe that God loves everyone all the time. The world was created for love and whenever we veer from love, we miss the mark of who we were created to be.
